Did you know that it was National Orgasm Day on Wednesday 31 July? We’re completely behind the idea of celebrating the wonderful orgasm, but did you know that it’s actually really good for you to have an orgasm?
Over at the Metro, they explained the many benefits of having a satisfying climax, whether with your partner or on your own. However you get there, you’ll find you reap plenty of benefits.
Firstly, after you’ve had an orgasm you’ll sleep better. That’s because your body floods with a host of chemicals when you climax, including the wonderful happy hormones of oxytocin and serotonin, as well as norepinephrine, vasopressin and prolactin.
Combined, these chemicals make you feel relaxed. It’s why you’re often drowsy after you come, and it means you’ll tend to sleep well too. All these chemicals also make you feel calmer, which means you’ll often feel less stressed after having an orgasm.
You could also be doing your heart health a favour when you orgasm. Shamir Patel, pharmacist and founder of Chemist 4 U, explained that when you’re having sex your heart rate increases. Having an orgasm makes it increase further.
"Raising your heart rate is good for your heart, and when you orgasm it can reach rates that are similar to when you’re doing light exercise, like a brisk walk," he told the news provider.
And let’s not forget that having an orgasm is simply enjoyable! We’ve got a great range of pleasure toys for men and women, which can help you climax on your own or with a partner.
If you really enjoy using sex toys, why not consider taking your favourite one on holiday with you this summer? We’ve got some handy advice if you want to travel with your toys, such as picking a small toy that’s discreet to pop in your luggage.
